# Pinot Controller APIs

> Reference for the Apache Pinot controller REST API as served by StarTree Cloud: tables, schemas, segments, tenants, instances, tasks, and cluster operations.

The controller is the management plane of a Pinot cluster. Use these endpoints to create and change tables and schemas, upload and inspect segments, manage tenants and instances, schedule minion tasks, and read cluster state.

Every call goes to the controller URL of your StarTree Cloud environment with an `Authorization: Bearer <token>` header. On multi-tenant clusters, also pass your workspace ID in the `database` header. See the [API introduction](/api-reference/introduction) for how to get both.

The groups below follow the controller's own tags. The most used ones:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Table" icon="table" href="/api-reference/table/lists-all-tables-in-cluster">
    Create, update, validate, rebalance, pause, and delete tables.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Schema" icon="sitemap" href="/api-reference/schema/list-all-schema-names">
    Add and update schemas, and validate them before use.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Segment" icon="layer-group" href="/api-reference/segment/get-the-metadata-for-a-segment">
    Upload, reload, delete, and inspect segments and their metadata.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Task" icon="list-check" href="/api-reference/task/fetch-cron-scheduler-job-keys">
    Schedule and monitor minion tasks and their cron jobs.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

StarTree adds its own controller endpoints on top of the Pinot ones, for example atomic ingestion, restream, and upsert snapshots. Those are listed separately under [StarTree Extension APIs](/api-reference/startree-extensions/introduction).
